With a playoff game on the line, Southern Nash rose to the challenge on Friday. They claimed a resounding 49-15 win over Croatan at home. Given Southern Nash's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Croatan is ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southern Nash to victory, but perhaps none more so than Luke Faulkner, who rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Tylik Mitchell, who rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Northern Nash really took it to Richlands for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-28 win at home. With Northern Nash ahead 42-7 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Northern Nash's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Elijay Pitt led the charge by throwing for 220 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Jaquille Arrington was another key contributor, picking up 186 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Southern Nash pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.3 points per game. As for Northern Nash, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Southern Nash has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 327.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Northern Nash struggles in that department as they've been averaging 208.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
