4A Region 1 recap October 1, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in 4A Region 1 this week, Corinth beat Aberdeen 30-28. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Tishomingo County lost to Baldwyn 53-18 last week, the largest margin of any game. Blake Hawkins was a bright spot for the Braves, as he threw for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 75 yards in the loss.
He was 8-18 with 2 interceptions.
Hawkins put up the best numbers through the air as Tishomingo County fell to the Bearcats. Hawkins' favorite target this week was Caleb Smith, who caught 3 passes for 68 yards.
Tishomingo County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Braves feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Hawkins has thrown for 945 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Brannon Gamble has 13 catches for 358 yards. Hawkins also leads the league in rushing with 569 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Amory takes on Itawamba Agricultural. The Panthers are currently in fifth, while the Indians are in second.
Corinth and the Bulldogs played the most contested game in 4A Region 1 this week, with Corinth eventually emerging with a 30-28 victory.
