The Robert C. Byrd Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the North Marion Huskies at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Robert C. Byrd focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Robert C. Byrd unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak. They were beaten by Fairmont Senior 64-35. While losing is never fun, Robert C. Byrd can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Fairmont Senior is ranked second).
Despite the loss, Robert C. Byrd saw an underclassman step up: Logan Boyce scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Boyce pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Meanwhile, North Marion's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 39-24 to Bridgeport. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points North Marion has scored all season.
North Marion's defeat came about despite a quality game from Caden Morris, who scored ten points.
Robert C. Byrd now has a losing record at 8-9. As for North Marion, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-9.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Robert C. Byrd have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 41.9% of their threes per game. However, it's not like North Marion struggles in that department as they've made 40.7% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Robert C. Byrd beat North Marion 56-44 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Robert C. Byrd since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
