Basketball Recap: West Valley Falls Despite Big Games from Jamessen Lima and Malachi Black

West Valley lost against Redlands back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The West Valley Mustangs fell 52-45 to the Redlands Terriers.

Malachi Black and Jamessen Lima certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Black went 8 of 20 on his way to 23 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, while Lima dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards. Black's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Even though they lost, West Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Redlands to victory, but perhaps none more so than Charlie Schadwinkel, who went 8 of 20 on his way to 21 points and seven rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Schadwinkel has scored at least a third of Redlands' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Horan, who posted seven points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks.

West Valley's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Redlands, their victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-5.

West Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 64-56 win against Perris on the 12th. As for Redlands, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 77-45 victory against Pacific on the 12th.
