Baseball Game Preview: Palo Alto Vikings vs. Gunn Titans

Palo Alto is a perfect 9-0 against Gunn since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Vikings will take on the Titans at 4:00 p.m. Gunn took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Palo Alto, who comes in off a win.

On Monday, Palo Alto needed a bit of extra time to put away Hillsdale. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Fighting Knights 7-6. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Coco Vonderhaar, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Palo Alto's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Greg Lee also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Gunn fell victim to Los Altos and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 9-0. The loss continues a trend for the Titans in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Gunn saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jonah Weinstein, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. Weinstein has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Palo Alto's victory bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Gunn, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Everything went Palo Alto's way against Gunn when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Palo Alto made off with an 11-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
