Basketball Recap: Qualib Ghallab's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Chaparral over Cimarron-Memorial

Chaparral lost against Cimarron-Memorial back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Chaparral Cowboys fell 78-65 to the Cimarron-Memorial Spartans. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (57), the Cowboys still had to take the loss.

Chaparral lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Qualib Ghallab, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Ghallab has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 42 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dameion Curry, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Cimarron-Memorial's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Terrence Mitchell, who went 8 for 10 en route to 20 points and three steals. Those 20 points gave Mitchell a new career-high. Gerald Patterson was another key player, going 7 of 13 on his way to 15 points and seven assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Chaparral and nudges their season record down to 10-10. As for Cimarron-Memorial, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

Chaparral didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 78-63 defeat against Boulder City on the 17th. Cimarron-Memorial has also already played their next matchup, a 65-59 loss against Legacy on the 22nd.
