Softball Recap: Englewood's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Englewood can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Parker Braves a 16-0 shutout. The Rams have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Braves, too.

Ashleigh McDaniels made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Englewood let Skyly Hyers and Kammarria Pate run wild. Hyers went 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Pate scored three runs and stole Five bases. while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiandra Carswell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Englewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Parker only posted an OBP of .133.

Englewood's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Parker, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Englewood will square off against Raines at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Raines has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17 runs per game on average), something Englewood will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Parker, they will challenge Stanton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Stanton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 15 runs per game this season.
