The Perry Central Commodores will head out on the road to face off against the South Spencer Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Perry Central came out on top against Crawford County on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Commodores were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Wolfpack. The win continues a trend for the Commodores in their matchups with the Wolfpack: they've now won seven in a row.
Braydon Shearn was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Gage Clark also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Meanwhile, South Spencer had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Marksmen with a sharp 11-3 victory. Considering the Rebels have won three matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Ty Brown, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Denver Epperson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
South Spencer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tell City only posted a batting average of .125.
The win got Perry Central back to even at 4-4. As for South Spencer, their record is now 4-2.
Perry Central's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Commodores have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for South Spencer, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Perry Central continue to outrun the ball?
Perry Central might still be hurting after the 20-11 loss they got from South Spencer when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Commodores avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
