The Caldwell Bluejays will be home for the holidays to greet the Central Christian Cougars on Friday. Caldwell comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Last Saturday, Caldwell came up short against Oxford and fell 50-38.
Despite the loss, Caldwell saw an underclassman step up: Ella Risley scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. Risley scored a full 44.7% of Caldwell's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Payten Stevenson, who scored four points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Central Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 47-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Macksville. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Central Christian came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Macksville is ranked 110th).
Caldwell's defeat was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-4. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.5 points per game. As for Central Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 4-1.
Caldwell took a serious blow against Central Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 58-19. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Caldwell was down 37-9.
