The Owen Warhorses's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 92-86 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mitchell. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (62), Owen still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Owen saw an underclassman step up: Asante Martin went 8 for 14 from beyond the arc en route to 38 points and 8 assists. Martin scored a full 44.2% of Owen's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jack Wesley Burk was another key contributor, scoring 23 points.
Owen's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-8. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Mitchell, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Owen will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mountain Heritage at 7:45 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Mitchell will be home for the holidays to greet Patton at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Patton's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six games.
