Fleming Island and Creekside are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Fleming Island Golden Eagles will get right back to it and host the Creekside Knights at 5:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Fleming Island will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
On Thursday, Fleming Island strolled past Auburndale with points to spare, taking the game 54-39. Given Fleming Island's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while Auburndale is ranked 506th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fleming Island found their leader in underclassman Carson Crawford, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. The contest was Crawford's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Reed, who scored nine points.
Creekside has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 55-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Nease on Monday.
Despite the defeat, Creekside saw an underclassman step up: Nolan Nelson scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. Nelson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Fleming Island is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Creekside, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Fans should be in for an exciting game on Friday as the two teams are among the highest scoring teams in the league right now. Fleming Island hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 64 points per game. However, it's not like Creekside struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 59.4 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Fleming Island strolled past Creekside in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 by a score of 71-54. Will Fleming Island repeat their success, or does Creekside have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
