Abbeville barely beat Dixie the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Abbeville Panthers put the hurt on the Dixie Hornets with a sharp 11-5 win on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Panthers needed considering they were shutout in their previous match.
Grady Overholt and Adam Beiler made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Overholt struck out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Beiler tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Overholt scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Beiler scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Staten Rice was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Oglesby, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Abbeville's victory ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-0-1.
