The La Vernia Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Floresville Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully La Vernia is not getting complacent, as they come into the match much higher ranked than Floresville in Texas (La Vernia is ranked 272nd, while Floresville is ranked 788th).
Last Friday, La Vernia came up short against Calhoun and fell 21-14. That means La Vernia has now suffered back-to-back defeats.
Although La Vernia took the loss, they still got scores from Isaiah Cisneros and Keegan Hajek.
Meanwhile, Floresville took a serious blow against Jones on Friday, falling 45-14. Floresville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 24-0.
Despite the defeat, Floresville had strong showings from Daniel Arrellano, who rushed for 131 yards on only ten carries, and Brandon Castillo, who picked up 144 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
La Vernia's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2, while Floresville's bumped their own down to the opposite: 2-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. La Vernia has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 219.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Floresville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 184.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
La Vernia was able to grind out a solid win over Floresville in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, winning 17-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for La Vernia since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
