Two dominant guards in Elijah Mckinzy and Nathan Kongolo are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Alvin Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Alief Taylor Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Alvin is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Alvin suffered their biggest loss since December 7, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by Dawson on the road and fell 74-38. While losing is never fun, Alvin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 797th, while Dawson is ranked 58th).
Meanwhile, Alief Taylor slipped by Alief Elsik 35-34 on Friday.
Alief Taylor's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kongolo, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Kongolo, who scored 13 points.
Alvin has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. As for Alief Taylor, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.
Alvin came up short against Alief Taylor in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 49-42. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Kongolo, who scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
