The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to Wasatch on the road by a decisive 69-51 margin on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Maple Mountain in their matchups with Wasatch: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Maple Mountain still got an impressive performance from Jaynee Tanner, who almost dropped a triple-double on 16 points, ten rebounds, and nine assists. That's the first time this season that Tanner posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Messick, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Leading Wasatch to victory were Peyton Behnke and Ashley Garner. Behnke went 7 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 4 assists, while Garner dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. Garner hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Fili Liava'a was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six assists and two steals.
Maple Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Wasatch, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-3.
Maple Mountain will be playing in front of their home fans against Salem Hills at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Salem Hills is ranked 37th, while Maple Mountain is ranked 39th). As for Wasatch, they will head out on the road to square off against Springville at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Springville is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.
