The Mathis Pirates suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were beaten by Aransas Pass 102-52. If Mathis hoped to take revenge for the 79-40 loss against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Mathis lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being EJ Montemayor, who scored eight points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Reed, who scored six points.
Mathis' defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Aransas Pass, their win bumped their record up to 11-17.
Mathis will head out on the road to face off against Taft at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Taft's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups. As for Aransas Pass, they will be playing at home against Odem at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
