The Poplarville Hornets had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 45-37 win over Richton on Friday. The victory was just what Poplarville needed coming off of a 51-26 loss in their prior contest.
Poplarville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Janiyah Jones, who scored 15 points. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for her. Tameah Bester was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
When it comes to explaining why Richton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kalyjai Bolton. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Dherria Barlow, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Poplarville's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Richton, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Poplarville will be home for the holidays to greet Gautier at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Richton, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on East Central at 6:00 p.m. on December 16th. East Central is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
