Red Mountain is on a six-game streak of home wins, while the Mustangs are on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Red Mountain Mountain Lions will take on the Dobson Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Even though Red Mountain has not done well against the Warriors recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Red Mountain put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 63-40 victory. Given Red Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Warriors are ranked 153rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Makaia Jenkins and Payton Westra were among the main playmakers for Red Mountain as the former scored 14 points along with seven steals and six assists and the latter dropped a double-double on 12 points and 17 rebounds. Westra is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Macy Johnson, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Dobson humbled the Coyotes with a 63-29 victory.
Red Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Dobson, their win bumped their record up to 15-7.
Red Mountain might still be hurting after the 57-34 loss they got from the Mustangs when the teams last played back in January. Will Red Mountain have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
