The Roma Gladiators put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their undefeated season alive. They came out on top against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial by a score of 48-40. 48 seems to be a good number for Roma as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Roma's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was David Galan, who rushed for 94 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 231 yards and a touchdown on only 16 passes. Galan was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards. Ediel Garcia did his part to keep the secondary busy, rushing for 93 yards and two touchdowns, while also picking up 85 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emiliano Colunga, who rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Robert Moralez, who picked up 130 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Roma's victory was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 8-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Porter and 1-9 Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 41.9% over those games). As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roma will take on Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th.
