After two games on the road, Vernon is heading back home. They will take on The High Point Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Vernon was fully in charge, breezing past West Milford 41-14 on the road. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 27-7.
Vernon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gavin Pych, who rushed for 95 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Another player making a difference was Logan Pych, who rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, High Point got themselves on the board against North Warren Regional on Friday, but North Warren Regional never followed suit. They enjoyed a cozy 19-0 win over the Patriots. The win made it back-to-back wins for High Point.
High Point got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jerron Martress out in front who rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown on only five carries. Jayden Ruplall and his 110 yards on the ground were also a key factor in High Point's victory.
Vernon's victory was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 6-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.0 points per game. As for High Point, their win on Friday bumped their record up to 2-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Vernon has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 249.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like High Point struggles in that department as they've been averaging 178.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
