It was a good run, but the Conestoga Christian Cougars unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 64-63 to Mount Calvary Christian. Conestoga Christian has struggled against Mount Calvary Christian recently, as their contest on Monday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Paul Hurst, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Hurst has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Boutaugh, who scored 20 points along with four steals.
Leading Mount Calvary Christian to victory were Josiah Masters and Avery Kopcha. Masters scored 20 points along with six steals, while Kopcha scored 30 points along with five assists and four steals. Kopcha hasn't dropped below three steals for six straight games. Zach Witmer was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Conestoga Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Mount Calvary Christian, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
Conestoga Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Lancaster Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Conestoga Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Monday. As for Mount Calvary Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Susquenita at 7:20 p.m. on February 6th. Susquenita is coming into the game with five straight defeats at home, meaning Mount Calvary Christian will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
