Softball Recap: Ezekiel Academy Snags 13th Victory in Last 14 Games

Eight must be Ezekiel Academy's lucky number: they beat South Choctaw Academy with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Knights didn't even let the Rebels on the board, marking the Knights' second-straight 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Baylee Horn and Jillian Newell did most of the damage at the plate: Horn scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Newell scored a run while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits Horn has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sarah Vick, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Ezekiel Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Ezekiel Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for South Choctaw Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Ezekiel Academy will face off against Tuscaloosa Home Educators at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of. South Choctaw Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
