The Sparta Trojans put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 43-33 victory over Carthage. Given Sparta's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Carthage is ranked 105th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jacob Lafferty was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. Walker Loveland was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Sparta pushed their record up to 7-0 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.6 points per game. As for Carthage, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Sparta will head out on the road to face off against Forsyth at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Forsyth's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Carthage will take on Bishop LeBlond in a holiday battle at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at.
