The Broomfield Eagles will take on the Skyline Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Broomfield had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least 31 points, but Riverdale Ridge put an end to it on Friday. The Eagles fell just short of the Ravens by a score of 16-13. The matchup marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite the loss, Broomfield had strong showings from Kashus Clarvoe, who rushed for 169 yards and two TDs, and Slater Saunders, who rushed for 88 yards on only six carries.
While Broomfield came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Riverdale Ridge: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Owen Couch and Donovan Nesladek, who each logged two passes deflected. Broomfield wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 60%.
Broomfield's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Gavyn Bienzle, Alexander Darby, and Donovan Brooks, who each picked up one sack apiece. Bienzle was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making three total tackles in addition to snagging an interception.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Skyline). They blew past Adams City 57-0 on Thursday. The victory was familiar territory for the Falcons, who have now won three contests in a row.
Skyline didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Diego Kheng, Jax Collins, and Servando Morales picked up one apiece. Kheng is becoming a predictor of Skyline's success: when he posts at least one interception the team is 3-1 (and 1-4 when he doesn't). The Falcons received some extra help from Morales, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Skyline, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Miley Davis, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Skyline's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Broomfield, they moved to 7-2 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Broomfield has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 226.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Skyline struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 158.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Broomfield against Skyline when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 53-16 victory. In that contest, the Eagles amassed a halftime lead of 53-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
