Dayton is 0-10 against Fernley since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Dayton Dust Devils' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Fernley Vaqueros at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Dayton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Fernley is ranked fourth).
Dayton suffered their biggest loss since November 27, 2023 on Friday. They were beaten by Churchill County 52-8. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Dayton has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Fernley waltzed into their game on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They took down Lowry 66-52.
Fernley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Tollestrup, who scored 18 points along with three steals and three blocks. Tollestrup has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Nadia Velazquez was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Dayton has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Fernley, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-1.
Dayton was taken down by Fernley 65-19 in their previous meeting on January 5th. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Dayton was down 43-10.
