The Cardinal Mooney Cardinals are taking a road trip to take on the Boardman Spartans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cardinal Mooney is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Cardinal Mooney duked it out with Howland on Thursday. The Cardinals walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Tigers. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cardinals.
Andrew Bushey was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Kaden Reese also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Boardman never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against St. John on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Fighting Herald with a sharp 13-3 win. While the Spartans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Tyler Kirlik made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Landon Whippo was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Ivan Rudiak was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Boardman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Cardinal Mooney's record is now 9-4. As for Boardman, their record now sits at 8-2.
Cardinal Mooney's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's contest. The Cardinals have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Boardman, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Cardinal Mooney continue to outrun the ball? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
