The Newton-Conover Red Devils were the 71-38 winner over the West Lincoln Rebels when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Newton-Conover fell 40-28 to West Lincoln on Friday. Newton-Conover has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Newton-Conover's loss came despite strong showings from Sara Sain and Hadleigh Swagger. Sain scored four points along with seven rebounds and two blocks, while Swagger scored 11 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Swagger grabbed two or more steals.
Carolina Robinson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for West Lincoln, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 20 rebounds. Robinson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
Newton-Conover has fallen quite a ways from their 25-5 record last season and are now at 3-11. As for West Lincoln, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-9 record this season.
Newton-Conover will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Bandys at 6:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Bandys focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Friday. As for West Lincoln, they will play host again and welcome West Caldwell, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Caldwell and West Lincoln are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
