Azaria Barnett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Aries Smith was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jaeda Scott, who got on base in three of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Herron). They came out on top against Indianapolis Arsenal Technical by a score of 23-20 on Monday.
Like Indianapolis Shortridge, Herron also got a great game from a two-way player: Jordyn Ault. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ault was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taegan Ann Gadberry, who went 3-for-6 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Cali Weaver was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Herron kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 25 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Herron's win bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Indianapolis Shortridge, their victory bumped their record up to 3-9.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Indianapolis Shortridge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .481. However, it's not like Herron struggles in that department as they've averaged .474. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Indianapolis Shortridge suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Herron in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Blue Devils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
