Football Recap: Rudy Watts Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Waskom

Beckville hadn't done well against Waskom recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bearcats walked away with a 45-34 victory over the Wildcats. For the Bearcats, this counts as revenge for the 31-17 win the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Beckville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rudy Watts, who picked up 115 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 38 yards and a pair of TDs. The dominant performance also gave Watts a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Gabe Johnson also helped out with an impressive 87 receiving yards.

Beckville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Grayson Hicks and Silas Johnson. Beckville received some extra help from Tommy Heard, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Beckville has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.0 points over those games. As for Waskom, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 5-2 record.

Looking ahead, after each having a week off, Beckville and Hawkins will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on the 23rd. The Bearcats will be up against the Hawks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Waskom, they will take on Big Sandy at 7:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
