The Memorial Mustangs will take on the Heights Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Memorial came up short against Cy-Fair and fell 27-17. While losing is never fun, Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 556th, while Cy-Fair is ranked 238th).
Memorial's loss came about despite a quality game from William Van wie, who picked up 126 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Memorial's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Isaac Richardson was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Meanwhile, Heights had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 53.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Chavez 59-0 at home. Heights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won six matches by 28 points or more this season.
Heights' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ezell Williams, who rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown, and Dylan Ray, who threw for 74 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Trevon Duncan got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
This is the second loss in a row for Memorial and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Heights, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3.
Memorial strolled past Heights when the teams last played back in November of 2021 by a score of 21-6. Will Memorial repeat their success, or does Heights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
