The Morehead Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Walkertown Wolfpack at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Morehead has three straight victories, Walkertown has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Morehead is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Bartlett Yancey get on the board and left with a 17-0 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won three games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Brooklynn Wray made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Wray was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Saillie Aheron, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Taylor Hopper, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Morehead was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .360 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Walkertown came up short against McMichael on Thursday, falling 17-5.
Olivia Boast made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Morehead now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Walkertown, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Morehead has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Walkertown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Morehead couldn't quite finish off Walkertown when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 2-0. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
