Mark Keppel and Alhambra are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Aztecs will square off against the Moors at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mark Keppel can't be too worried about heading out to take on Alhambra: they just beat Ramona Convent at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Aztecs were the clear victors by a 16-8 margin over the Tigers on Monday. The Aztecs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Robyn Guitron made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits. Guitron was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Avigail Navarro was incredible, going 4-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Maddie Quach was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Mark Keppel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alhambra). Everything went their way against San Gabriel on Thursday as they made off with a 20-2 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
The victory made it two in a row for Mark Keppel and bumps their season record up to 14-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Alhambra, their victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-17.
Mark Keppel took their win against Alhambra in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 9-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aztecs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
