Plainview has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Stanton Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Plainview focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Plainview beat West Holt 47-39.
Abbie Kromarek continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Plainview's points. Teya Boyer was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Stanton was handed a three-point loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Saturday. Stanton put the hurt on Lyons-Decatur Northeast with a sharp 56-30 win. That looming 56-30 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Stanton yet this season.
Stanton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Rebecca Stoddard led the charge by scoring 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stoddard has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kelby Pohlman, who scored 15 points along with five assists and three steals.
Plainview is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Stanton's record now sits at 8-5.
Monday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Plainview have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Stanton, though, as they've been averaging only 28.1 rebounds per game. Given Plainview's sizeable advantage in that area, Stanton will need to find a way to close that gap.
Plainview didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Stanton when the teams last played back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 50-44 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Plainview since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
