Picayune hasn't had much luck against St. Patrick recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Picayune Maroon Tide will take on the St. Patrick Fighting Irish at 7:00 p.m. Picayune will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
Picayune's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They blew past Pass Christian 13-0. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Maroon Tide this season.
Parker Helton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. He also put up a double, which washis first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brunson Stockstill, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Picayune was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, St. Patrick posted their closest victory since March 27, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against West Harrison, sneaking past 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Fighting Irish in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now won five in a row.
Cameron Broom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alden Williams, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Jasper Moran was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
St. Patrick's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs over those games. As for Picayune, their record now sits at 5-0.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both team's pitchers. Picayune hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having hit 0 of their hits per game. However, it's not like St. Patrick struggles in that department as they've hit 0 of their hits this season. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Picayune came up short against St. Patrick in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 5-1. Can Picayune avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
