Softball Recap: Central Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Jay, Central was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Baker Gators a 5-0 shutout. This was payback for the Jaguars, who suffered a 16-8 loss the last time these two teams met.

Shelby Zigler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Zigler was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tenley Smarr, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Central's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Baker, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

Central will venture away from home to face off against Destin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sharks have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season. As for Baker, they will face off against Booker T. Washington at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Gators are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
