The Montevideo Thunderhawks will challenge the Redwood Valley Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Montevideo's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Redwood Valley has been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Montevideo came out on top against B O L D on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Thunderhawks blew past the Warriors 9-1. Considering the Thunderhawks have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Griffin Epema spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 13 Ks.

At the plate, Montevideo let Sam Knoop and Ben Gunlogson run wild. Knoop went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Gunlogson went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Gunlogson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Landon Olson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Montevideo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Redwood Valley had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Blue Earth by a score of 6-3 on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Redwood Valley's victory bumped their record up to 2-10. As for Montevideo, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Montevideo was able to grind out a solid victory over Redwood Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 12-9. Do the Thunderhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
