Baseball Game Preview: Pasco Pirates vs. Gulf Buccaneers

Pasco is a perfect 4-0 against Gulf since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Pasco Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gulf Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. Pasco's pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so Gulf's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Gulf is facing Pasco at the wrong time: Pasco suffered their first home loss of the season on Tuesday and they're likely out for redemption. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coyotes.

Pasco saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayce Rollins, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Rollins has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Gulf didn't have quite enough to beat Zephyrhills on Monday and fell 5-4.

Aidan Coment spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on four hits.

Pasco's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Gulf, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pasco has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gulf struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Pasco took their victory against Gulf in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0. Will Pasco repeat their success, or does Gulf have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
