Softball Recap: South Extends Winning Streak to Five

South never let their opponents score on Saturday. They blew past the Summit Charter Collegiate Academy Bears 19-0. Considering the Spartans have won nine contests by more than eight runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Sienna Lopez was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, South got a massive performance out of Kloie Wetmore, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that Wetmore launched this season. Zowey Estrada was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple.

South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. They are 9-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win was the fifth in a row for South, bringing their record up to 12-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Summit Charter Collegiate Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, South will take on Exeter in a tournament on Monday. As for Summit Charter Collegiate Academy, they will look to defend their home field on the 21st against Woodlake at 4:00 p.m.
