The Elite Scholars Academy Royal Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight defeat. They fell to Atlanta Classical Academy 66-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why Elite Scholars Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jordan Miller. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miller has scored all season. Jerel Clark was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Elite Scholars Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Atlanta Classical Academy only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Atlanta Classical Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Miller McGowan out in front who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. McGowan is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 17 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Andres Wright, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds.
Elite Scholars Academy dropped their record down to 4-18 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Atlanta Classical Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.
Elite Scholars Academy will head out on the road to take on the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Atlanta Classical Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
