It was a good run, but the Columbus Cardinals unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to Hallettsville 53-47. Columbus was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Hallettsville apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Columbus' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karlee Mathis, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The game was Mathis' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anaya Gardner, who scored 12 points.
Columbus' defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Hallettsville, they pushed their record up to 22-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus will take on Tidehaven at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hallettsville, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Industrial at 6:15 p.m. Industrial will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 990th, while Hallettsville is ranked 282nd).
