Anthem Prep hasn't had much luck against Bagdad recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will face off against the Sultans at 4:00 p.m. Anthem Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
While Anthem Prep's win against San Pasqual Valley wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles skirted past the Warriors 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 25, 2025.
Grace Stillwell made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stillwell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Evjen, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Dylana Lee was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Bagdad's offense. They came up short against Williams on Tuesday, falling 21-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Sultans have suffered since April 3rd.
Anthem Prep is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Bagdad, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Anthem Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .394. However, it's not like Bagdad struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Anthem Prep got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Bagdad by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
