The Orlando Science Orcas's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They suffered a rough 54-33 defeat at the hands of Merritt Island Christian.
Orlando Science lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Glen Wickersham, who scored eight points. Myles Gipson was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Merritt Island Christian was led to victory by Trey Nevad and Connor Angstadt. Nevad dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds, while Angstadt scored 23 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. The matchup was Nevad's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Stevenson, who scored four points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Orlando Science's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-7. As for Merritt Island Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orlando Science will be staying on the road on January 12, 2024 to face off against Taylor at 6:00 p.m. on January 12, 2024. After both having extra time off, Merritt Island Christian and Burns Sci-Tech will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
