Vidor and Lumberton are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Pirates will be playing at home against the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Vidor got the win against West Orange-Stark by a conclusive 10-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.
The team relied heavily on Rylan Chessar, who went 1-for-2 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolt Holden, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Vidor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Orange-Stark only posted an OBP of .211.
Meanwhile, Lumberton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 26-3 victory. With that win, the Raiders brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Colton Harwell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Harwell was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Luke Cody was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Ryan Verde, who scored four runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Vidor's victory bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Lumberton, their win bumped their record up to 18-7-1.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Vidor has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Lumberton struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Vidor skirted past Lumberton 1-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
