The Muskogee Roughers will head out on the road to square off against the Bixby Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Muskogee is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses.
Last Monday, Muskogee lost to Bartlesville on the road by a decisive 48-31 margin.
Muskogee's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Malaysia Burton, who scored 15 points along with four steals, and D'mya Brown who scored seven points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 48.4% of Muskogee's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Bixby put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Stillwater 69-42 on the road. Given Bixby's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Stillwater is ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Muskogee has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Bixby, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Muskogee might still be hurting after the 62-36 loss they got from Bixby in their previous meeting back in January. Can Muskogee avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
