Gillespie has gone 9-1 against Staunton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Miners will head out to face off against the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Gillespie 3.5, Staunton 1.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Gillespie's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against North Mac by a score of 4-0. The Miners haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Laci Schuckenbrock was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Delaney Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Staunton entered their tilt with Carlinville on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Cavaliers.
The result came thanks to Grace Burris's shutout, as she gave up just two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ele Feldmann, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in May of 2024.
Staunton pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Gillespie, their win bumped their record up to 16-6.
Staunton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gillespie has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. It's a different story for Staunton, though, as they've only averaged .325. Will they be able to contain Gillespie's hitters?
Everything went Gillespie's way against Staunton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Gillespie made off with a 14-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Miners since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
