Volleyball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for St. Joseph

St. Joseph had won four straight games and Sophie Yates did her part to make it five on Thursday. The Jayhawks walked away with a 3-1 win over the Rich Rebels with plenty of help from Yates, who had 34 digs and three aces. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 10.8 digs per game.

While St. Joseph might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Rich scored at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 26-24, 12-25, 25-18.

Loss or not, Rich got some senior leadership from Paige Smith and Tess Cornia. Smith had 43 digs and two aces, while Cornia had 24 assists and six digs. Cornia is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 16 or more in each of the last 12 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Tyla Pugmire, who had 15 digs and two aces.

The victory got St. Joseph back to even at 6-6. As for Rich, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-5.

Coming up, St. Joseph will square off against Altamont at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rich, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Wendover on the 6th.
