Sunset is 0-4 against Hillcrest since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Sunset Bison will head out on the road to face off against the Hillcrest Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Sunset is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, Sunset was beaten by South Oak Cliff 84-20. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sunset in their matchups with South Oak Cliff: they've now lost nine in a row.
Sunset's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jayden Rico, who scored eight points, and Jason Watson who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Hillcrest entered their tilt with Jefferson with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Hillcrest took their contest on the road on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 78-48 victory over Jefferson. Given Hillcrest's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 484th, while Jefferson is ranked 1329th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hillcrest can attribute much of their success to Kurt Thomas, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals, and Creed Vance, who scored 23 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vance has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jed-ethan Nansha, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and two blocks.
Hillcrest's lineup was just a bit different on Tuesday as Jacoby Ogbonna got a bit more time on the court (20 vs. his season average of 9.35). Ogbonna made the most of the opportunity, scoring four points along with seven rebounds. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Sunset has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-19 record this season. As for Hillcrest, their victory bumped their record up to 13-14.
Sunset took a serious blow against Hillcrest in their previous meeting back in January, falling 80-24. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Sunset was down 54-17.
