The Platt Panthers will challenge the Fairfield Prep Jesuits at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Platt comes in on four and Fairfield Prep on 22.
Platt is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Newtown. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since March 28th.
Tyler Cioffi made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Cioffi was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
In other pitching news, Devyn Page looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Caleb Datchuck was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base was his first of the season. Jeam Ortiz was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Fairfield Prep beat East Hartford 7-3 on Monday.
Like Platt, Fairfield Prep also got a great game from a two-way player: Jack Nolan. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Nolan has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Fairfield Prep let Ryan Ventrelle and Vinny Lombardo run wild. Ventrelle went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Lombardo went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Lombardo is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
Platt's record is now 15-11-1. As for Fairfield Prep, their record now sits at 25-1.
