Choctaw Central is 9-1 against Northeast Lauderdale since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Even though West Lauderdale scored an imposing 55 points on Friday, Choctaw Central still came out on top. Choctaw Central took their match against West Lauderdale 67-55. 67 seems to be a good number for Choctaw Central as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Meanwhile, Northeast Lauderdale was able to grind out a solid victory over Newton County on Friday, taking the game 58-51. Given Northeast Lauderdale's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while Newton County is ranked 114th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Northeast Lauderdale's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addison Baskin, who scored eight points along with 16 blocks. That's the first time this season that Baskin posted two or more blocks. Troy Brown was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Choctaw Central pushed their record up to 16-5-1 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.9 points per game. As for Northeast Lauderdale, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Choctaw Central was able to grind out a solid win over Northeast Lauderdale in their previous matchup on January 2nd, winning 71-64. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Brown, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds.
