Baseball Game Preview: Forbush Falcons vs. Mount Airy Granite Bears

The Forbush Falcons will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Mount Airy Granite Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Forbush will be strutting in after a win while Mount Airy will be coming in after a loss.

Forbush is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against South Stokes. Forbush put the hurt on South Stokes with a sharp 18-3 victory on Wednesday. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Sauras recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Aaron Hutchens and Dylan McClamrock were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Hutchens struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, McClamrock tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Hutchens has allowed since back in April of 2024. At bat, Hutchens went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run, while McClamrock scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Hutchens a new career-high in hits (three).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bo Moxley, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matthew Glenn, who scored four runs.

Forbush always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Stokes only posted an OBP of .304.

Meanwhile, Mount Airy unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 11-1 to Surry Central on Wednesday. Granite Bears fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Golden Eagles since on Wednesday.
